We have three incoming voice lines and a dedicated fax line. The 955-0000 telephone number listed above is manned and answered 24 hours per day*. From 8:30AM - Noon and from 1PM - 4:30PM Monday through Friday, the office staff answers the phone. During lunch and outside the hours listed above, an answering service will answer the phone. Dr. Livstone shares after hours evening and weekend call coverage with four other board-certified gastroenterologists. Dr. Livstone or one of his covering doctors is available by phone (and if necessary, to see you in one of the area hospital emergency rooms) every weekday evening from 4:30PM until 8:00AM the following morning; one of these doctors is also available by phone all weekend. If you are having a problem which cannot be managed safely by phone, you will be advised to report to one of the area hospital emergency rooms where x-ray services, laboratory services, and many therapeutic measures can be brought to bear on your problem. Dr. Livstone or the covering doctor will usually ask the emergency room physician to see you first to obtain the necessary initial laboratory work and to start any intravenous fluids or other treatments to speed up the process of resolving your problem. Since the doctor on call is covering 5 medical practices on evenings and weekends, it is important for you to telephone the office only during regular office hours for prescription refills, administrative matters, and non-emergency questions. Office visits are by appointment only. If you wish to drop by the office to take care of administrative matters or to pick up a prescription, the office is open Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Although the phone is forwarded to the answering service during the Noon - 1PM lunch hour, at least one member of the office staff will be present on site. The fax machine is kept on 24 hours per day, but incoming faxes are collected only during regular office hours. Emergency messages should not be sent by fax. The web site can be used to view or download information and instruction sheets as well as administrative forms. We deliberately did not set up an incoming e-mail feature for the web site because of privacy and professional liability concerns. If you have caller ID and find that Dr. Livstone or his covering physician call you back on a line other than 955-0000, do not use any other number but 955-0000 to call us back because these other telephone lines are not manned continuously 24 hours per day.
